Situated in the heart of the countryside of Livorno, surrounded by green hills, Bolgheri was a small feud of Counts Della Gherardesca, but centuries later it has developed as an important center for wine production.
The traditional agricultural activity of the territory has become today the main resource of the town. Here are produced famous red wine DOC such as Sassicaia, Grattamacco, Ornellaia and Masseto. These, together with the delicious Maremma gastronomy, attract to Bolgheri a lot of tourists and enthusiasts from all over the world every year.
The entrance of the village is particularly impressive, the access arch is dominated by a tall medieval tower and a perfectly restored red brick castle, the ancient residence of the Counts Della Gherardesca. You will get there by traveling on the “Avenue of the Cypresses”, a beautiful street shaded by two rows of cypresses crossing the local countryside. The avenue is also the perfect starting point for hiking, biking or walking with the family. Many are the paths that wind through the cultivated fields, along the rows of vines and on the green hills of the territory.
